☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection gathers the complete adventures of Bat Lash, a charming and reluctant Western antihero, from his debut in Showcase #76 through his own short-lived series and guest appearances. Presented in black-and-white on inexpensive paper, the volume showcases the character's unique blend of humor, action, and 1960s counterculture flair, with stories by writers like Sergio Aragonés and Denny O'Neil. It's a comprehensive look at a cult-favorite DC Western character who never quite fit the traditional cowboy mold.
In "Pheasant in Aspic," Bat Lash—florid hat, fondness for fine dining, and a firm aversion to violence—finds himself in trouble the moment he flees an irate suitor. On his way to the town of Welcome, he shoots a pheasant, only to demand it be served as aspic, sparking a chaotic journey through town as he gathers supplies, dispatches villains with flair, and stumbles into a scheme far more devious than a simple meal.
In "Melinda's Doll," Bat Lash finds himself reluctantly protecting a young girl named Jo after her father is murdered in a frontier town riddled with secrets. As he uncovers the truth behind the killing, he must navigate a web of deceit that reaches far beyond the dusty streets he’s sworn to defend.
In "Revenge Part 2," Bat Lash confronts the man who betrayed his family, only to be arrested for the killing. As he faces justice, he recounts how Rickett’s fraud destroyed his parents’ farm, forcing him to flee with his sister and fiancée, hiding them in a convent. Now free, Bat seeks out Melissa and Bitsy—only to learn they’ve chosen to take vows and remain at the convent.
In "Brothers," Bat Lash tracks a wanted man through the dusty frontier, only to find that his long-lost sibling—now a bounty hunter with no memory of their shared past—has become his most dangerous quarry. When the two finally meet, neither recognizes the other, and the only witness who might reveal the truth is silenced by a bullet.
