Sherlock Holmes #1
Sherlock Holmes investigates a theft involving Sir Reginald's ruby and a large bank account, following a frantic phone call from the housekeeper about a fight between her master and neighbor Nat Borden. Chief Walters briefs Holmes on the case, and Holmes learns that about a month prior, the housekeeper reported the altercation. Holmes recovers the ruby from Sir Reginald's estate and discovers that Prince Marat, an American businessman observing the prince's methods, is involved in the theft as part of a power play—the ruby was meant to be a symbolic gem that would restore Marat's position. After a confrontation with gangsters and Eastern agents, Holmes recovers the ruby and returns it to Sir Reginald, while a supernatural sequence depicts spirits including Diane Ballard appearing as a guide figure before Holmes searches his cabinet for further answers.
