In "Todesschlaf," a young settler named Tipi falls into a mysterious sleep after drinking from a goblet laced with poison, believed to be the work of the Mohawk medicine man Sagamaw. When Dan takes Tipi to the Mohawk camp seeking help, Sagamaw claims ignorance of the antidote but points to a neighboring shaman—leading Dan and Tipi into a trap set by hidden braves. Forced to flee, they find refuge in a cave, where the poison’s effects reveal a shocking twist: Sagamaw himself unknowingly consumes the deadly brew, and in his final moments, he reveals the antidote lies in birch bark.
