The twelfth and final chapter of Sheltered: A Pre-Apocalyptic Tale closes out Image's survival thriller with a cover that's quietly unsettling — two determined young faces loom large over a dilapidated compound, a crescent moon and scattering birds hanging in the amber dusk above. Johnnie Christmas renders both figures with sharp, wary expressions that speak volumes about the tension simmering throughout this series. It's a haunting, beautifully composed sendoff to one of 2014's more daring indie books.
