This volume collects the origin of the New 52 Shazam, originally serialized in the backup features of Justice League issues #0-21. Written by Geoff Johns with art by Gary Frank, it reimagines Billy Batson's transformation into the adult superhero Shazam, now part of a foster family, and pits him against the villainous Black Adam. The collection also includes the Shazam! #0 issue from the New 52 era.

Freddy follows Billy when he sneaks out at night, and finds that he goes to the zoo to visit a tiger named Tawny. Freddy and Billy plot revenge on the Bryers. Sivana uses his new ability to see magic to find the tomb of Black Adam.
