John Bolton's painted cover for this Renegade Arts Entertainment series opener is genuinely arresting: a pale young woman bound in dark ribbons stands at the center, while shadowy figures — including a grotesque, grinning skull-like face and a skeletal torso — loom and curl around her against a stark white background. Written by Lovern Kindzierski with Bolton handling every visual aspect of the interiors as well, Shame: Conception promises a dark, atmospheric horror story that wears its unsettling ambitions proudly right from issue one of three.
