Issue #8 of Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos brings the squad face-to-face with one of Marvel's most dangerous villains, as the cover — penciled by Jack Kirby and inked by Sol Brodsky — depicts a Nazi-uniformed Dr. Zemo firing a blazing death ray down a stone staircase at Fury and the scrambling, weapon-ready Commandos below. The beam tears through the steps in a burst of smoke and fire, with a shirtless Fury leaping to evade the blast while his squad holds their ground around him. Stan Lee and Dick Ayers's 1964 war series was already one of Marvel's most energetic titles, and this cover — plus the promise of "the newest Howler of all" inside — makes issue #8 a genuinely exciting addition to any collection.
