This January 1966 issue puts Dum Dum Dugan front and center in a tense waterborne raid, as he stands boldly in a small rubber raft, fist raised, while his fellow commandos level their weapons at a looming Nazi warship bearing a swastika insignia — with bullets already splashing the water around them. Dick Ayers delivers a cover full of movement and menace, capturing the squad's gritty determination against overwhelming odds. The portrait strip of Howling Commandos faces along the left side rounds out a cover that makes "Dum Dum Does It the Hard Way!" feel like exactly the kind of promise this series always keeps.
