Sergio Aragonés Groo the Wanderer #24

Sergio Aragonés packs this February 1987 Epic/Marvel issue with a wonderfully chaotic cover scene: Groo stands front and center, sword drawn and expression bewildered, while an enormous, grotesque crowd of twisted faces and misshapen figures presses in around him from every direction. The sheer density of Aragonés' pen-and-ink linework — every corner crawling with leering, bug-eyed characters — is a reminder of why his art is such a singular pleasure in comics. With Mark Evanier co-writing alongside Aragonés and Tom Luth's colors bringing the mayhem to life, "Arcadio's Quest" looks like another gleefully unhinged adventure for the world's most catastrophically unlucky wanderer.
