“Reign of Blue Terror”

In "Reign of Blue Terror," young Toughy finds himself caught between his mother’s strict expectations and his secret role as a Blue Boy, all while trying to keep his latest shiner from raising suspicion. When he overhears a robbery plot in the park, he steps in—alongside his friends Tommy and Tubby, the Blue Boys—to stop the crooks, proving that even a little trouble can lead to something heroic. Frank Harry’s art brings the early 1940s charm to life, while Harry Peter’s cover captures the moment with bold, expressive detail.

Not knowing of Toughy's role as one of the Blue Boys, when he returns home with a shiner she thinks he has been roughhousing with Tommy and Tubby again (he has, but not in the way she thinks). She makes him change into gentlemanly clothes and keep away from rough situations. In the park, he overhears crooks planning to rob Anderson's Grocery Store at closing time. Tommy and Tubby, as Blue Boys, foil the robbery, and Toughy helps. When he returns with a second shiner his mother tells him she is proud of his role in preventing the robbery.
