“100 Year Duel!”

In "100 Year Duel!" from Sensation Comics #103 (1951), romance counselor Ann Martin finds herself drawn into a heartfelt mystery when she follows a distraught girl from a party, setting off a chain of emotional revelations. The story unfolds with quiet intensity as Ann’s own life intersects with that of Gene Weldon, a man wrestling with a secret that mirrors the girl’s dilemma—only to discover that love, honesty, and identity can be more complex than they first appear. With Carmine Infantino handling both pencils and inks, and Irwin Hasen and Bernard Sachs bringing the cover to life, this 1951 gem captures a tender, timeless moment in a world where truth and feeling collide.

At a party, romance counselor Ann Martin sees a crying girl run outside, and follows her. She explains that she has to decide whether never to see the man she loves again or tell him that she is a liar and a cheat. At her office the following morning, Ann is visited by Gene Weldon, who is the man from the previous evening and who has a similar problem. When finally they meet again, Vera explains that she is a lowly salesgirl while Gene is a rich man born and bred. In fact, he works in the same store as Vera. And so, true love prevails.
