Nora, leaving a life of poverty behind, arrives in the big city. She is befriended by Mac, who helps her find a place to live and a job as a seamstress at a fashion house. However, he thinks this entitles him to a kiss, and Nora is too afraid to resist. Nora is promoted to assistant designer at work, and meets Alan, the handsome lawyer nephew of the firm’s owner. They fall in love, only to have Mac reappear and threaten to reveal Nora’s past. She agrees to marry him, but Alan breaks up the ceremony and they embrace.
