The photo cover, credited to Theda Hall and Emerson Hall, captures a playful couple outdoors against a soft blue sky, the smiling young man covering his companion's eyes in a sweet, teasing surprise amid wildflowers. Wilma and Blair are high school sweethearts; she repeatedly advises him about his future, urging him to study business rather than writing, which is his passion. When Blair graduates from college, she convinces him to take a job in a big company rather than revise the novel he’s written. To impress his new boss, Wilma suggests Blair manage the local library as a project. Librarian Frances encourages Blair’s writing, and warns Wilma that she’ll lose him if she ignores his interests. Wilma changes her ways and she and Blair will be happy.
