“20 Miles to Heartbreak [Part II]”

In "20 Miles to Heartbreak [Part II]," Melanie’s desperate journey takes a dangerous turn when she accepts a ride from Juan Perez, sparking a tense conversation about the barriers society places on their relationship. As they stop for dinner and join others dancing, their moment of connection is shattered by a violent confrontation that ends with Melanie struck by a car and waking up back at her mother’s house—only to learn Juan has been arrested. Written by Barbara Friedlander and brought to life with sharp, expressive art by Alex Toth (pencils and lettering) and Vince Colletta (inks), this emotionally charged story captures a pivotal moment in a relationship tested by prejudice. The cover by Bill Draut and Vince Colletta perfectly frames the tension and heartbreak of the moment.
