Scooby-Doo #48

The cover of this 2001 DC/Cartoon Network release says it all with a big, bold "Yikes! It's the Vikings!" — and sure enough, a hulking, axe-wielding Viking warrior looms over a panicked Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, who are scrambling along with round red-and-black shields in tow. Cover pencils by Joe Staton and inks by Dave Hunt give the scene a wonderfully kinetic energy, perfectly capturing that mix of comedy and chaos the series does so well. Issue #48 looks like a wildly fun romp for fans of Mystery Inc.'s more historically chaotic misadventures.
