Charlton's Scary Tales #34 looms with unmistakable menace — a cloaked, sinister figure peers around a darkened doorway while, trapped within what appears to be a giant hypnotic eye, a young couple desperately struggles against an unseen force, the cover copy teasing a tale of a master hypnotist's diabolical scheme. Steve Ditko's cover pencils and inks give the scene a wonderfully unsettling energy, with that surreal eye dominating the composition in pure Ditko fashion. If you enjoy your 1982 horror with a dash of pulp suspense and genuinely creepy imagery, this issue delivers the atmosphere in spades.
