History

The series was announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023, with editor Alanna Smith and writer Steve Orlando presenting it as the next evolution of Orlando's then-ongoing Scarlet Witch solo series, which concluded its initial ten-issue run before feeding into this four-issue miniseries. Orlando — who had been the primary creative steward of Wanda Maximoff since the 2021 Darkhold event — brought the full Scarlet Witch artistic team with him: interior artist Lorenzo Tammetta and colorist Frank William continued without interruption, while superstar cover artist Russell Dauterman returned to provide the series' main covers. In interviews, Orlando framed the project explicitly as a 60th-anniversary spotlight designed to give Quicksilver the same depth of character exploration that the solo run had given Wanda, describing his intention to bring Pietro into the 'chosen family narrative' and to explore the siblings' contrasting ways of processing grief over Magneto.
