“Avenging Son”

The second chapter of Marvel's twelve-issue limited series finds Namor, the Avenging Son, in his element — underwater and on the offensive, tearing through the air hoses and equipment of hard-suit divers who surround him in a swirling mass of bubbles and debris. Rich Buckler and Bob McLeod's cover crackles with kinetic energy, capturing Namor's fierce, coiled aggression as he battles the helmeted figures closing in from all sides. Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas's 1988 retelling of the Sub-Mariner's saga is clearly in full swing by issue two.
