Chapter Forty Four of Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples's space-opera series arrives with one of its most tender cover images yet: a winged young girl with small horns is lifted into a warm amber-and-rose sky by a figure lying flat on the ground below, their hands clasped together in a quiet act of trust. Staples's cover art captures something genuinely moving — the outstretched arms, the child's wide-eyed expression, the iridescent dark feathers catching the light — all set against a backdrop of massive roped cylinders that hint at some grander, stranger world just out of frame.
