Saga #26
Fiona Staples delivers a genuinely unsettling image for this 2015 chapter of Brian K. Vaughan's space-opera series: two figures — a young woman gripping a staff and a smaller child reaching outward — are caught inside the wide-open jaws of a massive, wasp-patterned creature, while a second blue-furred beast looms behind it and what appears to be a small green grenade sits perched on the larger creature's head. The tension between the warm glow emanating from within those teeth and the sheer scale of the monsters around the two characters makes for a cover that's hard to look away from. Saga Chapter Twenty-Six arrives with the same imaginative energy that makes this series one of Image Comics' most visually inventive ongoing runs.
