“The Exterminator”

This Giant-Size Harvey Comics offering unites the full Sad Sack crew — Sad Sack himself, Sarge, The General, Muttsy, and Sadie Sack — all spotlighted in the left-column character portraits. George Baker's cover art captures a wonderfully chaotic park-bench moment: Sad Sack goes flying through the air near a tree while a startled Sarge recoils with stars exploding around him, a woman leaps back in alarm, and the little dog Muttsy scurries about below clutching his tag. For fans of Harvey's gentle military comedy, this 1966 Giant-Size issue promises a generous helping of the bumbling, big-nosed charm that made Sad Sack World a perennial favorite on the spinner rack.

For the third time, Sack (and his troop, during a war game) come across a mysterious house, this time it's a gingerbread house owned by the same witch. When they (except Sack) start eating her house she changes them temporarily into gingerbread men. Sack takes them back to camp where they return to normal and win the war game. Meanwhile, the witch takes Sack to be her boy friend. She dumps him when the magic mirror again says she's not the ugliest -- Sack is.
