Sad Sack Comics #44

Harvey's beloved everyman soldier stumbles into fresh chaos on this March 1955 cover by George Baker, who captures the hapless Sad Sack mid-mishap — barefoot, wide-eyed, and recoiling as a gun backfires with a burst of colorful stars while a crab clings stubbornly to his hand. Down in the corner, a tiny sailor watches the whole disaster unfold from behind a smoking barrel, making it clear that Sad Sack's talent for attracting trouble is very much still intact. "Loved by Millions" says the cover, and with chaotic charm like this on full display, it's easy to see why.
