This December 1949 Dell issue puts Roy Rogers front and center in a tense photo cover, crouching low against what appears to be heavy iron machinery, revolver drawn and eyes sharp — every inch the alert cowboy hero his fans adored. The striking image captures that charged moment of cautious action perfectly, and with 52 pages of all-comics content inside, including the story "The Roaring River," there's plenty of western adventure to back it up. A fine snapshot of Dell's western line at its most confident.
