Don Carlos sends Roy, Dusty, and Bullet downriver to Pucalpa via the monthly mail boat, but when they arrive they can't land due to an attack by the Campa. Instead, they land at Don Felipe's outpost further downriver. It is destroyed by an earthquake, but they are rescued by a float plane sent from Iquitos to check on Pucalpa.
