Romeo Tubbs promised both Hildegarde and Daisy that he would take one of them to the school dance, but now must tell one of them she's out of luck. After Romeo awkwardly attempts to break the news to Daisy at the dance, she becomes upset, but Romeo escapes and discovers Hildy at the Bijou Theatre watching a vaudeville show featuring dancing hippos. Romeo then writes an essay for his teacher declaring Miss Grizzly the loveliest and most charming teacher in school, which causes an uproar when the piece is discovered and read aloud in class.
