Anne returns home, recuperating after a breakdown in London. Then she runs into a man she knew in London who had moved there to be a vet's assistant. Anne's sister thinks he's followed her from London and Anne does nothing to squash the rumour. Soon everyone in the town thinks they are secretly engaged and Don doesn't understand why the people in the town are treating him differently.
