At her engagement party, Edna learns that Gordon's friends had thought he would end up marrying a girl named Iris. While visiting Gordon's house, she sees pictures of Gordon with Iris in a photo album. And when she helps clean out his attic, she finds love letters from Iris. Finally, when she cleans her engagement ring, she sees traces of an old inscription. Under a magnifying glass, she can just make out the first two letters: "I" and "R".
