Against her parents wishes, Cris had come to London to be a model. Now, with no money and no job, Cris is forced to pawn the bracelet her parents had given her as a gift before she left home. At the pawn shop, a stranger helps her negotiate for a higher price. Hearing of her predicament, he invites her to live at the communal residence where he and others stay. Cris becomes accustomed to that life, but when she receives a letter from her mother, telling her she is coming to visit, Cris thinks of the bracelet and critizes Bill for his lifestyle.
