Fran and Les, longtime friends who’ve just realized their feelings for each other, are excitedly planning their future together when Les’s old friend Marty Slater reenters their lives, now a jockey at the Limeah Race Track. Marty invites Fran to the races, where she impulsively follows his betting tips and wins a surprising amount of money—unaware that the thrill of gambling is beginning to stir something unexpected in her.

Fran, recovering from a nervous breakdown, returns to her job after four months, only to be reunited with the man she once loved—Mal Tr—when he comes to see her, confessing he never stopped loving her despite her past mistakes. Though she’s overwhelmed with guilt and emotion, he gently asks only that she be the girl he can’t forget, reigniting a fragile hope between them.

Fran finds herself torn between her steady boyfriend Bix and the charming new model Don, whose persistent attention and romantic gestures begin to sway her. As their relationship deepens, she grows distant from Bix, but soon starts to question whether Don’s promises are more than just words.
