Diana's godfather buys her a yacht for her birthday, but needs someone to sail it for her. Max answers her newspaper ad and, although Diana finds him insolent, she is immediately attracted to him. She tries to win him over and he briefly seems to weaken, but then starts avoiding her. Eventually Diana discovers that he has spent five years in prison for the murder of his unfaithful first wife. Diana uses her influence with a lawyer friend to discover the truth about Max's conviction.
