A fortune-teller predicts consular employee Gail will fall in love with an American in Venice, and her predictions seem to come true: Gail meets art student Jeff and they fall in love. However, Gail struggles against this, not wanting her life controlled by a prediction. Jeff confesses that he paid the fortune-teller to make up the story so he could meet Gail.
