In "Badman's Reward," Rocky Lane outwits an outlaw gang by using his knowledge of the terrain and his horse Black Jack to traverse the treacherous Badlands. Rocky discovers a shortcut through the region and changes an Indian trail sign from "Good Water" to "Poison Water," successfully directing Bad Bill Bronson's gang toward a water hole while they pursue him, ultimately capturing them and collecting the reward. The issue also includes a humorous story featuring Slim Pickens at a butcher shop, where he demands a refund for a tough steak and becomes embroiled in a comedic dispute over the meat's quality.

Whitey Whiskers is down on his luck and desperately needs to sell his hungry dog—until he spots a notice from Jeff Halsey offering fifty dollars for a good retriever. The down-and-out prospector launches into a series of tall tales to convince the skeptical buyer that his pooch is the finest hunting dog in the territory, spinning increasingly outlandish yarns about the dog's uncanny abilities both on the hunt and off it.

Gopher Face is laid up and groaning about his illness, so Rocky Lane stops by to check on him—only to get some hilariously backhanded reassurance from the doc's prognosis. It's a quick, punchy gag that captures the irreverent humor of 1950s Western comics.

Till We Meat Again
4 pp · Humor, Western-Frontier

A customer looking for a refund on a tough steak sparks a series of increasingly ridiculous arguments with the butcher Butch—from complaints about impossible poultry to mistaken meat orders and sampling mishaps. This four-page humor romp features rapid-fire wordplay and slapstick as the two characters trade quips and punches over everything from kidneys to turkey, before matters escalate to hanging and cold feet.
