The lead story follows Rocket Kelly, a space pilot, who is held captive along with others by the villain Nihil; Rocket devises a plan to have Nihil's ship dive at them so that he and his fellow prisoners can grab onto a pickup device and escape. A separate story recounts the historical achievements of aviation pioneer Santos-Dumont, detailing his early flying machine experiments, his successful flight around the Eiffel Tower in 1899, and his various setbacks and triumphs in early aviation. Another story involves a newspaper reporter visiting a museum curator to investigate a mysterious python and a large reptile on display, uncovering an apparent theft or fraud scheme at the institution.
When Rocket Kelly and his crew arrive at Bleak Mountain to investigate strange disturbances, they find Professor Maynor’s lab in ruins and the professor missing—only to discover the guiltless ape, who was imitating his master, pointing to evidence of murder. As they uncover a hidden villain’s lair camouflaged beneath a fake lake, they confront the shocking return of Nihil, the criminal thought to have died years before.
Betty Boyd, a reporter, investigates the arrival of a massive 45-foot python at the zoo, only to discover the curator dead and the snake loose—leading her to suspect foul play. As tensions rise, she uncovers a conspiracy between Richard Brown, the curator’s secretary, and Knockout, a former fighter with a violent past, as the true murderer begins to reveal themselves.
