The Ringo Kid #1 (1954) introduces a story rooted in frontier justice and personal tragedy, as former attorney Cory Rand, disbarred for marrying Dawn Star, a Comanche woman, builds a new life on a remote ranch with his family. When Shad Rathburn attempts to buy his land and is refused, the tension escalates into violence after Rathburn’s men burn down Rand’s home and murder his wife. Rescued by his young son, who will grow to become the Ringo Kid, Cory’s story of loss and defiance sets the stage for a reckoning. Penciled and inked by Joe Maneely, the issue’s stark, dramatic artwork brings the emotional weight of this Western origin to life.

Attorney Cory Rand finds himself unemployed after his disbarment by the judicial board. While he's given no explanation it's clear that it's because he's chosen to marry a Comanche woman, Dawn Star. Ostracized from the community Rand buys land and lives with his wife on a ranch he tends to. Shad Rathburn offers to buy Rand's property but is spurned. Soon Rand and his wife have a son, who will grow to become the Ringo Kid. After Rathburn and his men burn down Rand's home and kill his wife they intend to hang him. Rescued by his son the Ringo Kid takes revenge on Rathburn and his men.
