This volume collects the first six issues of the 2019 Red Sonja series from Dynamite Entertainment, launching a new era for the She-Devil with a Sword. Written by Mark Russell with art by Mirko Colak, the story finds Sonja returning to a war-torn Hyrkania, where she must navigate political intrigue and brutal conflict to reclaim her homeland. The arc, titled 'Scorched Earth,' sets a darker, more introspective tone for the iconic barbarian heroine.
In "Chapter 1: The Coronation," Red Sonja faces a new threat as Vorgon of the Woodland tribes, recently rebuffed by her, seeks revenge by offering his forces to raid the Hyrkanians. With Isolde and her band of barren women ready to defend their land, Sonja must navigate shifting alliances and unexpected resistance in a clash of wills and steel. Written by Mark Russell and illustrated by Mirko Colak, with colors by Dearbhla Kelly and Bob Q, and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, this issue features a striking cover by Amanda Conner.
In "Chapter 2: The Crossing" from Red Sonja #1 (2019), as Dragan advances on Hyrkania, Sonja uses cunning over brute force, sending her cousin Kryon to strike at Dragan’s supply lines while she rallies the remaining people to flee to the open plains—where survival, though uncertain, may still be possible.
In "Chapter 3: The Gold Mine" from Red Sonja #1 (2019), tension simmers as Dragan awaits supplies, while Vorgon of the Woodland tribes—spurned by Sonja—seeks redemption through a raid on the Hyrkanians. With Isolde and her band of barren women ready to strike, Sonja must face the consequences of past choices as ambushes and betrayals unfold in the shadow of the gold-laden hills.
