The Kids warn Chet that outlaw Selden will react with violence to Chet's article lambasting Selden. They set a burglar alarm in the news office triggered by opening the door wide. That night, Selden, "Dobie," and Gib use a ladder to the back alley window and snatch Chet from his bedroom above the print shop. Sandy's idea: send a note with Chet's key tasking her dad to run the paper in Chet's absence. Ted's idea: masquerade as an Apache collecting maguey sap in Crowfoot Canyon, find Chet. Sandy realizes the note didn't warn her dad about the burglar trap.
