# Red Mask #1 Synopsis This issue contains two stories. In the first, a young boy named Jeff grows up as a hermit in the mountains after a traumatic raid, developing survival skills until he encounters a traveling medicine wagon. An old man with magical abilities befriends him and teaches him tricks, eventually recruiting him to help stop a stubborn man named Sam who was struck by lightning and has become a bitter hermit himself. In the second story, Red Mask confronts Mexican bandits who have taken ranchers hostage, discovering that the bandits are actually the Sheriff's double working with accomplices to rob stagecoaches, leading Red Mask to pursue them and prevent further crimes.

Stubborn Sam, the Mountain Man
5 pp · Western-Frontier

Stubborn Sam, the mountain man, is determined to stay isolated—until Muley Pike arrives with urgent news that Honest Oscar’s election depends on Sam’s vote before midnight, or Dead-Eye Danbury will take over Hogwash Junction. Reluctantly, Sam agrees to go to town, only to be thwarted by a lightning strike that forces him to confront his past and ultimately vote for Oscar—much to the shock of the townsfolk and the villainous Danbury.

The Crooked Cook
7 pp · Western-Frontier

Red Mask must arrest Mex Lallaposa, the town’s seemingly innocent cook, after multiple witnesses claim he robbed a stagecoach—despite Red Mask’s growing doubt.
