Charles Soule and J. Calafiore kick off "Atrocities" with a cover that makes an immediate, visceral statement — Atrocitus looms out of a storm of fire and rage, his Red Lantern emblem blazing at the center of a darkened, battle-scarred silhouette rendered in Andrea Sorrentino's painterly style. The tagline "The Revenge of Atrocitus!" leaves little doubt that the corps' founder is back with a purpose, and the swirling crimson chaos surrounding him sets a suitably fierce tone for this four-part story. Fans of the New 52 Red Lanterns run will find this August 2014 issue a compelling entry point into what promises to be a charged, emotional arc.
