Paul Ryan's cover for Ravage 2099 #4 (March 1993) says it all with its blunt cover copy: "How can one man hope to win — against the mighty Mutroids?" Ravage himself dominates the foreground, red-haired and fierce, clutching a shield and weapon as a chaotic tangle of beast-like Mutroids — purple, brown, and orange figures swarming through a jungle backdrop — threatens to overwhelm him. Stan Lee's dystopian 2099 universe is on full, kinetic display here, with Ryan's bold linework making the odds against our lone hero feel genuinely daunting.
