Ragnarök #8

Walter Simonson's Ragnarök continues its fierce post-apocalyptic Norse saga with issue #8, "The Games of Fire." The cover — penciled and inked by Simonson himself — thrusts two armored warriors into the foreground: a white-haired, battle-scarred figure in blue robes brandishing a sword, and a blue-skinned companion in heavy plate, both bracing against a surging horde of demonic red creatures that fills the fiery golden background. Laura Martin's coloring gives the whole image a smoldering intensity, the warm infernal tide pressing hard against the cool blues of our heroes, making this 2016 issue look every bit as urgent and alive as the myths that inspired it.
