Punisher: Soviet #2

Paolo Rivera's cover for this second chapter of Garth Ennis's MAX series is striking in its cold-war poster aesthetic — a blood-red sky frames Frank Castle in his skull-emblazoned jacket, jaw set and eyes forward, while a weathered older man stands just behind him against a backdrop of military helicopters cutting through the air. The two-man composition and muted, propaganda-tinged palette set an unmistakable tone of grim purpose stretching across continents. With Jacen Burrows on interior art and the story pushing into "The Other Side of the Mountain," this 2020 series is clearly Ennis working in the territory he handles best.
