From Image Comics in 2007, Proof #1 kicks off a series built on a delightfully strange premise: what if monsters were real, and someone had to deal with them? Riley Rossmo's cover says it all — a massive, suit-wearing, bearded figure towers protectively over a young woman armed with a pistol, the two of them surrounded by a churning mass of grasping hands and skulls rising from the earth. Writer Alexander Grecian and artist Riley Rossmo clearly have a bold, genre-bending vision here, pairing monster-hunting intrigue with a visual style that's equally gritty and inventive.
