“If I Knew the Way I'd Go Back Home [Alamo Part Six]”

Near the end of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's landmark Vertigo run, this penultimate chapter of the "Alamo" arc arrives with a cover by Glenn Fabry that's quietly arresting — a massive, close-cropped face wearing dark sunglasses dominates the image, while two small figures sit side by side on bar stools below, their backs turned and shoulders nearly touching. The contrast between that looming, inscrutable presence above and the intimate, almost contemplative moment between the two figures below gives the composition a melancholy weight that feels entirely fitting for a story winding toward its close. "Alamo Part 6 of 7" promises the penultimate beat of a finale that Ennis and Dillon's devoted readers have been following with great anticipation.
