Preacher #42

Glenn Fabry's painted cover for Preacher #42 is a genuinely unsettling piece of work — a gaunt, bald figure in boxer shorts and leg braces turns his back to us, blue-tinted goggles catching the light as he surveys a hellish, blood-red cavern littered with grotesque remains and shadowy alcoves. The image sets an appropriately grim tone for "The Meatman Cometh," the kind of chapter title that signals Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon are heading somewhere dark and strange. This 1998 Vertigo issue also bundles in a special preview of The Minx, making it a satisfying double-dose of mature-readers storytelling.
