Glenn Fabry's cover for this June 1995 Vertigo title is an arresting close-up of a battered, blood-spattered man in sunglasses and an open denim shirt, pulling the shades down just enough to fix the reader with a dangerous, knowing smirk. It's an image that radiates controlled menace — roughed up but absolutely unbroken. Writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon were already making Preacher one of the most talked-about mature-readers series of 1995, and "And the Horse You Rode In On" promises more of that darkly charged energy.
