Power Rangers Prime #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freePower Rangers Prime #2 is the first comic issue to deploy the VR Troopers — the 1994–1996 'sister' Saban series that has never previously appeared in comics — as active antagonists within the rebooted Power Rangers universe, making it the foundational first-appearance chapter for those characters in this medium. The issue also delivers a structural role-reversal that defines the entire Prime era: Rita Repulsa, historically the franchise's primary villain, discovers the remnants of Lauren Shiba's Samuraizer and pivots into an uneasy ally to the Rangers against the authoritarian Eltarian empire, a storytelling inversion with no precedent in thirty years of Power Rangers fiction. Its immediate distributor sell-out, coming just weeks after a landmark relaunch, confirmed that Melissa Flores and Michael YG's reimagined continuity had genuine fan momentum behind it, not just curiosity. As the issue that first put the VR Troopers and Rangers on a collision course, it is the direct story engine behind the VR Troopers spinoff series that would follow in mid-2025.

Power Rangers Prime launched in November 2024 as a complete continuity reboot following the conclusion of Boom! Studios' eight-year Mighty Morphin Power Rangers saga, which ended with the 'Darkest Hour' crossover event. The new series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in August 2024, with writer Melissa Flores — who had produced for the Power Rangers TV franchise before transitioning to comics — and Beijing-based artist Michael YG, whose fusion of Eastern and Western art styles was specifically sought out for the redesigned world. Issue #2, the December installment, built directly on the first issue's sell-out success and was itself confirmed sold out at distributor level within days of release, triggering a second printing with a new Stefano Simeone cover dated to January 22, 2025.

- Power Rangers Prime is set in a rebooted continuity — described by the publisher as being 'in the vein of Marvel's The Ultimates' — where the Eltarians rule Earth as an occupying empire, Power Rangers are outlawed, and Lauren Shiba (originally an 11th-hour Samurai Ranger on TV) is reimagined as the central fugitive Red Ranger protagonist.
