Porky Pig #65
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis cheerful 1959 Dell issue finds Porky Pig at the center of a delightfully absurd summer moment — the cover, illustrated by Ralph Heimdahl, shows two pig characters eyeing a towering ice cream cone that's had a baseball land squarely on top of it, while the smaller pig clutches a tennis racket, suggesting the accidental culprit isn't hard to identify. The bright green background and the duo's wide-eyed expressions capture exactly the kind of light, breezy comedy Dell did so well during this era. At just a dime, it's a warm snapshot of mid-century funny animal comics at their most purely enjoyable.

Porky gets tricked into a bullfight by Zito, a cowardly matador. While in the woods before the fight, he comes upon an alien who duplicates Porky’s “handsome” looks as his own – and, in Porky's form (though green), is himself tricked into fighting the bull instead of Porky.
