Poppo, a circus clown, and his young companions are mistaken for the Hound of the Baskervilles by children who then pursue them into a haunted house during a snowstorm. After wild comedic encounters with supposed ghosts and skeletons (which turn out to be harmless), they take shelter in a house and encounter a man and woman who mistakes Poppo for a ghost. Poppo later appears at his own popcorn theatre where a waiter mistakenly serves him a reindeer, leading to a series of increasingly absurd theatrical misunderstandings that culminate in Poppo being honored as a distinguished performer and receiving a medal from the governor.

When a blizzard traps Poppo, Bumpy Allen, and Ginger Allen in an old, seemingly haunted house full of ghostly apparitions and mysterious sounds, they're convinced the place is genuinely supernatural—until Poppo investigates and uncovers the truth. Meanwhile, three escaped convicts, including Doc and Runty, seek shelter in the same lodge, and Poppo must keep his friends hidden while the criminals search for a way to escape the storm. It's a race between supernatural scares and real danger as Poppo works to outwit the criminals before they discover they're not alone.
