When a blizzard traps Poppo, Bumpy Allen, and Ginger Allen in an old, seemingly haunted house full of ghostly apparitions and mysterious sounds, they're convinced the place is genuinely supernatural—until Poppo investigates and uncovers the truth. Meanwhile, three escaped convicts, including Doc and Runty, seek shelter in the same lodge, and Poppo must keep his friends hidden while the criminals search for a way to escape the storm. Poppo and his young friends stumble into a spooky house full of magicians' props and tricks, where three crooks—Doc, Emil Johnsona, and Runty—are hiding out. As Poppo cleverly uses the house's illusions and mechanical gadgets to confuse and frighten the villains, the kids find themselves caught up in an increasingly wild game of supernatural pranks and chases. With a basement trap door and a bit of quick thinking, Poppo hatches a plan to outwit the criminals once and for all.
