Officer Duffy, a lawyer hired by Mr. Groute, attempts to settle a property dispute over an apple tree growing on the fence line between Groute's and Bumpy's land. When Poppo the clown tries to mediate by telling jokes, his impersonation of Groute and a dog causes confusion and a brawl. After a police officer arrives and recognizes the fraud, Mr. Groute has a change of heart, deciding to give his land to Poppo as a reward for bringing the community together, and the story ends with everyone celebrating their new friendship.
