About this Collection

This collected edition brings together the complete 2011 Boom! Studios miniseries, which reimagines Edgar Allan Poe as a young detective investigating supernatural mysteries in 19th-century Baltimore. Written by J. Barton Mitchell with art by Dean Kotz, the story blends historical fiction with horror as Poe confronts a series of gruesome murders tied to his own dark poetry.

In "[Chapter One] 'Neither the angels in heaven above'", J. Barton Mitchell and artist Dean Kotz launch a haunting, atmospheric tale where the Poe brothers stand at a spiritual crossroads. As the ghost of Madeline turns on her brother Usher, and Edgar Allan Poe makes a quiet choice to let go of resurrection, the weight of legacy and loss shapes a moment of fragile redemption. The story unfolds with a brooding intensity, its visuals grounded in the stark beauty of Dean Kotz’s art and the evocative cover by Jeffrey Spokes and Erika Terriquez.

As the Poe brothers fight for the soul of Elaine, the frustrated spirit of Madeline consumes her brother instead. Usher's body is destroyed by fire. Having made his own choice not to use the Coins of Judas to resurrect Virginia, and having joined with his brother and sister-in-law, Edgar Allan Poe bids farewell to the shadowing raven. He leaves the hospital where he had confined himself, and his poetry flows again.
